The role

Are you ready to be at the frontline of protecting Wales’ environment while influencing real change in how industry and waste are managed?

As an Officer 2 in our Southwest Waste Regulation team, you’ll play a vital role in tackling environmental challenges head-on—regulating permitted waste sites, investigating illegal activity, and responding to environmental incidents. Every day is different. One moment, you could be inspecting a major waste site to ensure compliance; the next, leading an incident response to stop pollution in its tracks.

This is your chance to make a real difference while developing your skills within a supportive, forward-thinking organisation. You’ll work closely with businesses, applying our regulatory principles to drive improvements, reduce environmental harm, and promote sustainable practices. Your decisions will shape the future of environmental protection in South West Wales and beyond.

You’ll be part of a flexible and inclusive team, supported with hybrid working, continuous development, and a strong wellbeing culture. If you bring knowledge of regulation or the waste sector, excellent communication skills, and a passion for safeguarding the natural world—we want to hear from you.

As an organisation we support flexible working.  You will be contracted to an NRW office within the place base / location above and a suitable hybrid working pattern will be agreed on appointment. Any regular face to face meetings or training will be planned in advance.

To make an informal enquiry about this role, please contact Edward Davies at edward.j.davies@cyfoethnaturiolcymru.gov.uk.

Interviews will take place through Microsoft Teams.

Successful applicants will be subject to a satisfactory Disclosure and Barring Service Check (DBS) check. Appointments are normally made within 4 to 8 weeks of the closing date.

  • Respond to incidents and complaints.
  • Contribute to a positive health, safety and well-being culture. Undertake health and safety duties and responsibilities appropriate to the post
  • Be committed to Natural Resources Wales Equal Opportunities and Diversity Policy, together with an understanding of how it operates within the responsibilities of the post
  • Be committed to your own development through the effective use of your personal development plan (known as Sgwrs).
  • Any other reasonable duties requested commensurate with the grade of this role.
  • Required to take part in incident response activities.
