Extent of Semi-Natural Habitat in Wales (Indicator 43)

Natural Resources Wales mapped the extent of semi-natural habitat in Wales using recent satellite data and the existing Phase 1 Habitat Map, which also included field survey methods.  We found that in 2017-2018, 31% of Wales is semi-natural habitat, similar to 2016-2017.  There is a big difference between upland areas (74%) and lowland areas (19%).  We report the figures to Welsh Government for Indicator 43 of the Well-being of Future Generations (Wales) Act 2015, areas of healthy ecosystems in Wales.
